embroidery
cotton fabric, Mouliné Stranded Cotton thread
This project explores the social traditions of embroidery and compares them to methods of communication and socializing in our modern day society.
Throughout history embroidery has been a social activity often used by women as a form of communication. In today’s technologically driven society, social media has revolutionized the way we communicate, creating online forums as freedom of expression. This project seeks to make connections between the handmade craft and the virtual world of the internet as forms of communication specifically by hand-embroidering photos posted to Instagram.
